Team's new look rant

Howdy and yes it's time for another rant by me, so let's get going.

PEI Rockets re brand to Charlottetown Islanders.
After 10 years of being called the "PEI Rockets", the team have change the name to the "Charlottetown Islanders" and they unveiled their new logo.
The logo looks good but 2 things. 1. Arial Black as the font for the "Charlottetown" is not a very bright idea to put on the logo. 2. Vegas Gold, Really? Instead of keeping red, blue, or green of all the colors you could've choose why in your creative mind go straight to Vegas Gold?
Change the font or remove the "Charlottetown"word mark, and change the colors for crying out loud.

 Dallas Stars new logo leaked?
Yup the Stars new logo got leaked or so everyone claim.
Here's my question, why Silver? Why would you replace the gold the have been with the team since the North Stars era with silver? But here's another question, what's the jerseys would look? So many questions will be answered on June 4.

Teasing like a Hurricane.
At the same date as the Stars (June 4) the Hurricanes will unveiled their new home and road jerseys. So far the team have been posting some images of their new set, the only thing I felt that they'll make a big mistake is removing their flag hem stripe witch it's always been their ID, it always the reason this team have some nice jerseys over the years, this could be ether good? or bad? You decide.

Ontario Jr.C relocated team.
I don't usually talk about any teams lower then the Jr.A (beside my Jr.B Maroons rants) I have to rant on this one. Two months ago the Kingsville Comets from the OHA Great Lakes Jr.C have relocated to Amherstburg, and the new team called them self the "Admirals." I think it's a good name and all, but after seeing the pictures the teams logo let just say they put the Calgary Cannons Baseball team, replaced a baseball cap with a pirates hat and add a big "A" in the background and there you go. I just don't know what to say about this. I just felt that there is no creativity what so ever. Sad just sad.

Well that's some rant for now, come this Saturday as I start a whole month of nothing but OHL concepts, until then later.

2013 NHL Playoff Pickz: Round 2 review and Round 3 Picks

Hi everyone, it's been a out of whack series when it comes to my picks, so here's my round 2 review.

Eastern Conference
1. Pittsburgh vs.  7.Ottawa
My Pick: Pens beat the Sens 4-2
The Result: Pens beat the Sens 4-1
I knew the Sens would run out of gas, but I didn't expect it to end in 5 games. We move on.

 4. Boston vs. 6. New York Rangers
My Pick: Bruins beat NYR 4-3
The Result: Bruins beat NYR 4-1
The Bruins move on to the conference finals, as for the Rangers well, they played really bad nuff said.

Western Conference
1. Chicago vs. 7. Detroit
My Pick: Blackhawks beat the Wings 4-1
The Result: Blackhawks beat the Wings 4-3
Those darn Wings gave me a heart attack but in the end the Hawks came back and win it.

5. Los Angeles vs. 6. San Jose
My Pick: Kings "LA King'd" the Sharks 4-2
The Result: Kings "LA King'd" the Sharks 4-3
The Kings did not win it in 6 games, but at least they beat them.

Well with that on to round 3.

 Eastern Conference Finals
1. Pittsburgh vs. 4. Boston
Pittsburgh: The Pens are back in the  Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2009.
Boston: For the 2nd time in 3 years the Bruins are in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Overall: After 21 years the Pens and the Bruins are going head to head to see who's going to the Stanley Cup Finals.
My Pick: Pens beat the Bruins 4-2

Western Conference Finals
 1. Chicago vs. 5. Los Angeles
Chicago: The Hawks made a come back in the 2nd round, but do they have some left in the tank?
LA: Kings seem to have problems with the Sharks, but made it through in a not a easy task.
Overall: Last year Stanley Cup Champion vs. Number 1 in the league who will win?
My Pick: Blackhawks beat the Kings 4-3

Well that's my round 2 review and my round 3 picks, until then later.

St. Michael's Buzzers concept

This is the St. Michael's Buzzers from the OJHL (Ontario Junior Hockey League) a Jr. A league a tier lower then the OHL. Their current set is just like the former Mississauga St. Michael's Majors jerseys set only the different is instead of the "Majors" word mark on the home, and the "Mississauga" word mark on the road both jerseys has "Buzzers" word mark on it. So I decide make a some what modern Reebok cut with two thin, and one thick stripes with in the arm cutter area and on the hem in the center cut off the sides. The fonts on both numbers and nameplates are standard block. The colors are navy, light blue, and white.

So that's my today concept, I updated my last Thursday post on my "Path to my first COTW by the numbers" list, I just add the numbers of concept from leagues. Just in case here's the list.
46 from the NHL.
17 from the OHL.
8 from the AHL.
3 from NCAA Hockey.
2 from OHA Jr.B.
2 from OHA Jr.C.
1 from the WHL.
1 from the QMJHL.
1 from the ECHL.
1 from BCHL.
1 from KHL.
1 Disney them.
Well hope you all enjoy the weekend, until then later.

Thursday: The Aftermath

Hi everyone, today is my first post since last Sunday on HJC weekend post that I never thought I would see, me winning my first "COTW!" It was a shocker for me. I have been trying to post me talking about my win but I couldn't come up with something to say, it's one of those things that every time that you think you're going to win, in this case I sometime got my victory speech ready and all but my win didn't happen. Now last Sunday when I saw the post and refresh the page to make sure I didn't lose my mind and right there "I Win a COTW!" To some it just a COTW compere to like contests, HJC Open to even COTY, but to me this means a lot to me. I mean 2 years ago I started sending my concepts to HJC and ever since I knew one day, just one day I would win that COTW, even though I did win the HJC's Montreal Maroons contest in 2011, but this COTW win just to me means more then you can ever expect. I just don't know what to say but thank you all who voted for my Ottawa 67's concept.

Ever since that day I went through all of my concepts that I sent to HJC I decide to do a segment called "Path to my first COTW by the numbers" is the total of concepts send by me from April 2011 all the way to my Ottawa 67's concept COTW win, so here we go.

83 concepts send to HJC total.
30 concepts reviewed by Ryan.

8.5/10: 4 times
8/10: 9 times

6/10: 3 times
27 concepts for HJC contests.
1 contest win.
2 concepts in the HJC live chat "Head2Head."
 46 from the NHL.
17 from the OHL.
8 from the AHL

2013 NHL Playoff Pickz: Round 1 review and Round 2 Picks

Hi people round 1 is in the books, so here's my review on first round.

Eastern Conference

1. Pittsburgh vs. 8. NY Islanders
My Pick: Pens beat the Islanders 4-1
The Result: Pens beat the Islanders 4-2
I was close at getting it right but the Islanders have played good enough to make it last to 6 games.

 2. Montreal vs. 7.Ottawa
My Pick: Habs beat Ottawa 4-2
The Result: Sens beat the Habs 4-1
Yeah it wasn't a pretty series, the Habs had a good season but with some good key players coming back in the line up for the Sens from injures was too much in a bad way.

3. Washington vs. 6. New York Rangers
My Pick: NYR beats the Caps 4-3
The Result: NYR beats the Caps 4-3
This one I got right, but I would like to see some more heart from the Caps, but that didn't happen.

4. Boston vs. 5. Toronto
My Pick: Bruins beat the Leafs 4-3
The Result: Bruins beat the Leafs 4-3
For the moment there it would be the Leafs moving on but the Bruins came back and forced overtime and win it all.

Western Conference

1. Chicago vs. 8. Minnesota
My Pick:Blackhawks beat the Wild 4-0
The Result: Blackhawks beat the Wild 4-1
So much for the sweeper that I was hoping for, but I give the Wild credit for showing that they're no 8th seed team to be walk over and give a "wild" (no pun) series.

2. Anaheim vs. 7. Detroit
My Pick: Ducks beat the Wings 4-2
The Result: Wings beat the Ducks 4-3
Not pleased with this one, the Ducks had the Wings on the ropes but couldn't finish the job.

3. Vancouver vs. 6. San Jose
My Pick: Nucks beat the Sharks 4-2
The Results: Sharks sweep the Canucks 4-0
You can check out my last Wednesday rant. Nuff said.

4. St.Louis vs. 5. Los Angeles
My Pick: Blues beat the Kings 4-2
The Result: The Kings "L.A. King'd" the Blues 4-2
Note to self "Stop picking the team that will beat the Kings" man I tell you, picking one team over the other team that I don't think will and that team end up winning is on thing, but this is a bad habit I been going through, this is the 5th straight time that I picked the Kings to lose but they end up winning.

Now with that covered on to my round 2 pickz

Eastern Conference

1. Pittsburgh vs.  7.Ottawa
Pittsburgh: The Pens went through a rough 6 games with the Islanders but it look like it didn't do much damage to the team yet.
Ottawa: The Sens shock everyone including  me when they beat the Habs in 5.
Overall: These two teams have some good playoffs history with each other it'll be a good series that's for sure.
My Pick: Pens beat the Sens 4-2

4. Boston vs. 6. New York Rangers
Boston: This team was 10 minutes away from being eliminated from the Leafs, but bounce back and moving on to the 2nd round.
NYR: The Rangers came back from a 3 games to 2 behind the Caps and blew them away in game 7.
Overall: Another battle of the original 6, classic but one will win.
My Pick: Bruins beat NYR 4-3

Western Conference

1. Chicago vs. 7. Detroit
Chicago: Their game is just like I called it!
Detroit: The Wings do know how not to give up and play until the bitter end.
Overall: The Wings played their game right in the 1st round, but how much left in their tank?
My Pick: Blackhawks beat the Wings 4-1

5. Los Angeles vs. 6. San Jose
LA: They beat the Blues once again by playing smart and tough after losing the first 2 game of the series.
SJ: Shocked everyone even me when they sweep the Nucks in 4.
Overall: Battle of Cali will be a good match up, one will draw first blood, the other draws the first choke, who will it be?
My Pick: Kings "LA King'd" the Sharks 4-2

Well that's my picks hope to see you all in round number 3, until then later.

Hartford Wolf Pack Competition: The Results

Hi everyone, today I have the results for the Hartford Wolf Pack Competition, after much carefully reading and counting we have a winner. But first I would like to give my thanks to everyone who entered their concept to make it happen, to everyone who voted to made this happened, and lastly to Ryan of HJC for giving me the opportunity to host this contest. This contest have really gave me the experiences on how it feels like that you had to go through with every contests that you do and that was a reason why I giving you and other posters that work for you on HJC the respect in a whole new level. I will take this as the way of learning, and if I get another opportunity to host any future contests like this again, I will do whatever it takes to improve the contest. Now with that out of the way.

The winner of the Hartford Wolf Pack Competition is.

 Jason Devald
Congratulation Jason on winning this contest!

Here's the results

Friday: The Final Countdown

Hi everyone today is the last day to vote for the Hartford Wolf Pack Top 5. So far there are good numbers of top 5 votes so far, but we do need more votes. Just in case if you decide and/or not sure to vote let me help you out on the rules.
This is the Top 5, so that means you have to pick 5 concepts in your order to like.
If you're one of the contestant that got their concept in this contest you can put yourself in the top 5. "But" you "cannot" place yourself in 1st, you can place yourself in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th. Pretty much as same as any other HJC contest since these rules establish.
So hopefully you all got that and once you the top 5 vote set and ready to go, you send it to the HJC contest e-mail.

Next week I'll be doing my 1st round review and my round 2 picks, as for concepts I was thinking of holding it off at least maybe after round 3, but it'll be a lot sooner, mainly last night I just finish the last concept to complete my "OHL Redesign Quest" and boy how it wasn't easy but I did it and looking back at it, I felt good about it and proud of it too, so this June I will post nothing but the rest of my OHL concepts.
Well that's my post for today until then later.

Wednesday: My rant on last night disaster for three teams

Hi everyone sorry for the lack of posting both Monday and Tuesday, mainly because of doing yard work and no idea what post about, but I do now!

But first.
The Wolf Pack Top 5 vote are due Friday May 10 11:59pm EST.

Well last night was a big disaster for both the Pens, the Habs, and most of all the Canucks.

The Pens really had a hard time with the Islanders and to tell you the truth I didn't expect the Islanders to play this series that good enough to give the Pens a run for their money. I mean the pens are good but the Islanders really up their game and show them that they aren't the 8th seed team to be walk all over. For now I believe this might be going all the way to 7 games, if the Islanders keep their game up.

The Habs made one of the best comeback after last year bad season and now they're on the verge of being eliminate by the Sens. I'm surprised that the Sens were so ready for this team. So we'll see if the Habs can bounce back or the Sens can close this series up.

The Canucks once had 1 win away from winning the Cup now looking back at it no matter how well they played in the seasons yet they played poorly in the playoffs, last year they got "LA Kinged" by the Kings in 5 games, now this year they got swiped by the Sharks in 4, witch brings me to one question "What now?" What the Canucks are going to do? All I can say is review everything, review the players, coaches, GM, everything to see that one (or dozen) flaw(s) in it and fix it so that way not only that they will be good in both seasons and playoffs so they can get where they were the Stanley Cup finals.

So that my rant on those 3 teams that I have to get it out off my head.
For now, Later.

Sunday 5 May 2013

Oh here's my Hartford Wolf Pack Concept

Friday: Clocks a ticking! Oh and a top 5!

Howdy everyone Today is your last day to send your Hartford Wolf Pack entries by "Tonight at 11:59 pm", if you send your entries after Fridays post don't worry there's Saturday post to keep a eye on for, so it's all good.

Hartford Wolf Pack Competition entries are due Friday May 3 11:59pm EST.

Before I gave HJC the Wolf Pack contest idea I had other ideas stuck in my head that I think it could be worth a contest. Well to me of course, so for the first time in a long time I will post my top 5 here.
This is the "Top 5 ideas for the HJC contest". Why top 5? Because "5" is more epic then "10"!

5.  North Bay Battalion Contest
This team have moved from Brampton to North Bay in time for the 2013-14 season and their so called look is same as Brampton (I won't be surprised that the uniforms would be the same) I thought of this would be a good idea but not really up there with other teams that needed a make over.

4. New York Islanders 3rd jersey redesign contest
It's a good idea at one time with the team moving from Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum to the Barclays Center by 2015 theres talk that they want the owners of the team to go with the same colors as the Brooklyn Nets colors (you know black and white) but other say just go with just the 3rd witch makes scene to me, but the presenting the idea is not a easy task to do but it was a good idea.

3. 2 Reebok Cookie Cutter Combo Contest
This on was pretty much a good idea, put 2 Reebok cookie cutter templates together and ta-da you get a good concept that can give you that creative edge to it. Good idea that can use any templates.

2. KHL Expansion team from China or Japan
This idea was in my in a long time, now I know it's not a easy market to have hockey over there mainly Japan that use to be at one time in the same ranks as Canada but at least it can't be as bad as let say Phoenix, Arizona.

And the Number One of my Top 5 ideas for the HJC contest is.

1. Hockey Homicide "Winter Classic Game"
This is a classic idea the stuck in my mind since I made the Hockey Homicide Tribute Concept. I was thinking of this idea of "what if Hockey Homicide playing Outdoors?" so this was my main idea from the start but I think with other concept ideas out there that simple and more on people eyes then this idea, but this time will come.

And so that's my Top 5. Yes there were some good ideas I had plan for HJC if they decide to ask for some more contest ideas I got them right here for now it's been a good week with running this contest and now next week will be voting phase and believe me I made my points system that could be a good chance the there won't be a tie for 1st. (I hope)

Till then later.

Thursday: My thoughts on Jersey Watch 2013

Hi everyone sorry I didn't do a Wednesday post because I was busy. Hopefully I'll make up for it today and Friday.

So far we got some Wolf Pack concept and still waiting for more if you're one of them that are taking time in putting together the concept for this contest that's good, just like to remind you all that you guys got until "This Friday at 11:59pm" to send your concept over to the HJC contest e-mail. In case you need the info here's the contest link.

Hartford Wolf Pack Competition entries are due Friday May 3 11:59pm EST.

On Wednesday over at Icethetics had posted this year "Jersey Watch 2013". It's a annual thing were reading news to rumors about NHL teams changing their looks from re branding their logos, to even Jerseys, so I'm going to give my quick thoughts on these so called news and rumors.

Buffalo Sabres new 3rd?
With their previous third jersey officially retired (Why they did that? I have no clue.) there is talks that a new 3rd is in the works, so far word is that it'll be blue and yellow and their current logo will be on it as well. Good luck trying to top your previous third jersey, because if you don't play your cards right it'll be bad news.

Calgary: Keep? or No Keep?
OK how can I say this problem, there's reports about that the Flames are thinking about dropping the teams retro third jersey in favoring a new one, while some are not so sure. Here's everyone including me asking this question "WHY?" this third jersey should or even better how about making them your main home jersey with matching road while you're doing that so that way you can easily put together a new 3rd with a snap of the finger.

Hurricanes new Home and Road? *gasp*
"Stand Back" the Hurricanes are going for a make over, oh so Reebok said that they're changing their look. I say get rid of the yoke lines and fix the arm stripes and you're good to go! What they had in the beginning was fine, just go back to that, end of story!

Dallas Changing
For the 3rd or 4th um who's counting how many times that the Dallas Stars said that they are going to change their look or adding a 3rd. I just gave up on it, if there going to be a change I'll just have to wait it out for now.

Wild Road to be revamped
Well looks like the road from the beginning is going to be officially retired witch is sad to me because it's fit the team so well and that goes for their old home too! Too bad that they're in favoring plain and boring look to their old ones that made them well you know "Wild" no pun attend.

The Habs changing?
"Oooo la la la" the Montreal Canadiens are going to change their look! Well that's not going to happen. I believe that the only thing they're going to change is putting lases on both Home and Road jersey and that's all so don't get all worked up about it.

Pens dropping the 3rd. *sigh*
I was hoping for news that the Pens are finally going to change their home and road jersey but no instead they are dropping their 3rd in favor of bringing in a new 3rd, maybe some what after the highly rumored "Stadium Series" that will happened in 2013-14 season *ugh* every time when there news about changes in Pittsburgh it's always the 3rds now the home and road set just the 3rd. "When are they going to change the home and road set?" The answer is unknown.

Sharks new home and road
Yes you read right, word is that the Sharks are going to change or modified the home and road jerseys. It's a good news to me because they need to change their look quickly because their current look is losing it's touch, hopefully they can get rid of their front numbers off their jersey. (Hopefully)

Well that's pretty much my thoughts on it see you all Friday.
