My Town vs. Hockey

My Hometown Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada. This town has hockey no doubt with locals greats from Dave Gagner (the Father of the Current Edmonton Oilers Sam Gagner), Brian Wiseman, current Edmonton Oilers Ryan Jones, and more. However for non hockey locals there's current Hamilton Tiger Cats Andy Fantuz, Former Ice Dancer Shae-Lynn Bourne, and the first and so far the "Only" Canadian baseball player to be in the Cooperstown Hall of Fame Ferguson Jenkins, yeah some history of sports right there but not one those "My town is better then yours" I'm not going to that extent got to think about Hockey in my town of Chatham why? Well here's an article about how my town miss the boat on building a state of the art arena to bring in a OHL team. O.K. here's 2 problems, problem number 1: In my town we have the Chatham Jr.B Maroons their current arena is the Chatham Memorial Arena, the the rink is old, build in 1949 and the seats are old school benches and very uncomfortable, indeed old arena so you're thinking they need is to build a new state of art arena and away you go, well it's not that easy, you see the city council in my town just put in big money on places like Convention Centre, to even renovating the Capital Theatre years ago and it done (or so I thought) but 2 things that went wrong, 1. No big parking lot: yeah it's a small parking lot heck there were some cars parked at a police station (yes it's sad), and 2. no good owners: there are owners but some didn't really have good money to keep the Theatre going, so there were so many names who owns the building I don't know who is running the building right now, all I know is that Theatre is still going, and so with that a new hockey arena is out of question, but back in the early 2000s both Mark and Dale Hunter were going going to put "Their" big bucks including the City funds to build a state of the art arena and bringing in a OHL team, "BUT" the City Council shot it down, with that the Hunter Brothers went on buying the London Knights and turn them into a highly successful team. Wow talk about missing the boat right there Chatham, you had the Hunter Bros. coming to town and want to build a "OHL style arena" but you guys shot it down all because they want some funds from the city, so much for my town having a state of art hockey arena Chatham. Witch brings me to problem number 2: There are so many pros on having a OHL team in Chatham from bring tourist from far areas in Ontario to even going to stores and fast foods joints, but the only cons I got in this and it bothers the heck out me is the "Fan Base" yes we got a good population if we put the new arena in the right spot like what the article said it's a win win! However to me in my opinion is that we are in a as I called it the "Hamilton Limbo" you see the City of Hamilton tried to bring in NHL to the City from expansions to even relocating a team it didn't work, also on a "Fan Base" vision Hamilton has two fan base 1 would be the Maple Leafs, and the Buffalo Sabres, I can see people jumping off the Leafs wagons, but people jumping off the Sabres wagons, meh flip a coin, as for Chatham getting a "OHL Fan Base" it'll be the hardest thing ever why? The answer, we got 3 OHL teams surrounding Chatham, you got the Windsor Spitfires, you got the Sarina Sting, and you got my London Knights, and most of the time those 2 out of those 3 would get success from seasons to the playoffs, so jumping off those wagons could be a difficult task to do. I don't say things alot but hopefully my town can their heads out of their butts and find a way to build a new arena soon, even though beside the Chatham Memorial Arena we do got 2 other arenas but those arenas are small and have one side seats only things there used for are house leagues, travel teams, and so on, not in a Jr.A level thing nor Jr.B level. So hopefully my town proves me wrong and get the approve to build the state of the art arena.

And that's my rant there won't be any concepts this week, there could be a chance for a top 5 but don't hold your breath it may not happened. I've been jumping back on my other projects just to recharge my creative mind, until then.

Colorado Avalanche Concepts 5

Well here we are and once again another Colorado Avalanche concept set, I'm telling you people I'll admit I always seem to have more ideas on this team more than any other teams in the NHL, lets not waste time and get to the concepts

I made this concept as part of HJC "No Horizontal Lines Competition" despite this sucker is a beauty, but it's pretty much wasn't good to everyone taste I end up with 4 points, oh well compare to other Aves concepts this was my best one or the worst one, what ever you look at it.

HJC Feedback

I was so in love with the concept I had to make the alternate jersey become the basis of the team's home and road jerseys, so the design is indeed has "mountains" all over it on the arm stripes, the hems, the yokes, and even the socks got mountains design all over it, sure these concepts aren't winners but they are in my book.

Well that's my concepts this week come by this Sunday afternoon after 1:30pm I have made a big rant this however is involves with my town and hockey about trying to get a nice brand new hockey arena, the problems, and two guys that could have got Chatham a OHL team, and many more, now they're some point of my rant that has me shooting down my town not harsh, but made me feel that I don't see my town going to be at a OHL level, just to give you all a fair warning, for now.

Hartford Whalers Concepts 2

Hi everyone, today concepts is my complete Hartford Whalers Concept yes it's the same as the old set, but on this set I got rid of the dark silver color and keep the light silver color on the whole concepts, and add a blue alternate jersey, don't get any shocker if this concepts get send their is going to be some more tweaks before I send it.
I have been procrastinating on changing my main blog logo (the one that had a jersey split in half one side is a pre-edge jersey, and the other RBK Edge) I'm planning on changing it soon, don't know when but hopefully soon and that pretty much it for this week till then.

Michigan Wolverines Concept 2

Last year I made the U of M concepts when I look at it I believe that it's time for a remake of it and so here it is, the Home, Road, and the 3rd are Chicoutimi Sagueneens jerseys without the vertical piping, the Retro Games one (I kinda change the title to "Special Event" after I uploaded on photobucket) has the U of M Football feel to it, add the yellow pants and here we go you got a classy but not over the top concept.

HJC Feedback

I have been on a role with my weekend blogs since my top 5 Hockey Video Games of all time, but this weekend I'm going to be posting another Concept because I'm working on a blog rant about my town on their hockey arena "saga", yes I said "saga" and believe me this one is somewhat not pretty until then.

Top 5 CHL Remembrance Day/Memorial Cup theme Jerseys

Well here we are today is Remembrance Day and as always few of the CHL teams do a Remembrance Day game, and to add to this day very special they would wear a Remembrance Day theme Jerseys, one of those that isn't over the top, just normal look for only one game, and then auction them off to rise money to any Canadian Armed Forces from the teams city, however not only they do this on Remembrance Day since 2008 the host team from the Memorial Cup tournament wears Memorial Cup theme jerseys also, so with these two big events that means so much to everyone here are my top 5 CHL Remembrance Day/Memorial Cup theme Jerseys, there is some I won't explain them correctly but I'll let the jerseys speak for themselves.

5. 2008 Kitchener Rangers Memorial Cup Jersey
Let's look at this way I admit I hate cream color on jerseys I really do! But this Memorial Cup Jersey that Kitchener worn in 2008 really made it work, it really gave that vintage look and feel while at the same time pays a tribute to the men and women of the army and the main crest is neat witch the Rangers would use that for their current alternate jersey and hopefully in the future on.

4. 2009 Mississauga St. Michael's Majors Remembrance Day Jersey
Another great tribute jersey by the St. Mikes this one is for the Remembrance Day game this one really caught my eye and really proves that you don't really need the teams colors to make a good tribute jersey you have to try something different and unique, solid colors, nice use of the main crest, and the right look make a very good tribute jersey.

3. 2010 Brandon Wheat Kings Memorial Cup Jersey
This one is my favorite Memorial Cup Jersey, great use of the Chicago Blackhawks Winter Classic jersey recolored, the main crest is nicely done, a maple leaf with two sword behind it and a banner with the word "Brandon" to give a final touch a great jersey.

2. 2011 Kitchener Rangers Remembrance Day Jersey
Kitchener always seem to make good Remembrance Day Jersey every year and gets better and better at it, this one looks simple but however theirs a saying "You thinks that putting a good crest on a simple jersey is nothing think again!" This jersey is well put together this jersey pays tribute to the 31 Combat Engineer Regiment (The Elgins). 31 Combat Engineer Regiment is an Army Reserve Engineer unit in 31 Canadian Brigade Group. This jersey is nice and not over the top like other teams from other leagues that used camouflage patterns, this one really gives that classic feel and enjoyment of watching them in action, yes indeed this one is my favorite Remembrance Day jersey ever.

 1. 2011 Mississauga St. Michael's Majors Memorial Cup Jersey
This is pretty nice and very unique the main crest is a image of Canadian soldier Marc Diab, a Mississauga native who lost his life in Afghanistan to defend his country, while the maple leaf in the back is from the Toronto Scottish Regiment logo. The Toronto Scottish was an armed forces unit based out of Mississauga that fought in World War 1. Also adding St. Mikes history to their four stripes both the arms and the hem to represent the four Memorial Cups won by the St. Michael's Majors indeed a classic Memorial Cup Jersey.

So that's my top 5 Remembrance Day/Memorial Cup theme Jerseys, it's a very fitting to pay tribute to the Men and Women that lost their lives in the line of duty, to rise money for a good cost these CHL teams have always give us the reason why we should thank them for defending our nation know as Canada, hopefully we will see some more tribute jerseys down the road.
Until then.

Jet(ting) with some concepts

The day has come my brand new Winnipeg Jets concepts

Just in case if you'll don't remember I made this concept last year (uh don't let the date on the post fool you ha ha ha) on this the changes I made was pretty much more Reebok standards then my old one I removed the arrow vertical stripe from the hem both front and back, on the back of the jersey the vertical stripe that goes across now cut off to give that Reebok standards, made two stripes on the wrist to match the hem, I also add the Jets current main crest minus the maple leaf as shoulder patch, and finally the main crest itself it's the same as my old concept gave it a different color placement as voted by you all, I was thinking about filling the word JETS with different colors the more I look at it the more I think I'll keep it that way until it hit me a different shade of white I had on the cockpit area, so I use it and it look perfect and thus my new Jets concepts.

HJC Feedback

Oh just for fun I decide to do the same Jets concept on Uniforms dot com template.
It's pretty much the same as the old one only made some tweaks just to fit the template, but this one really gave me the inspiration to redesign my Jets concept.

So there you have it my Jets concept once I'm done adding some detail texts on my concepts it's ready to go! Unless you have a put in on it if not away I go.
Come by later this week as I'm posting another Top 5s this one is a you can call it a Remembrance Day/Memorial Cup theme Jerseys and believe me the Kitchener Rangers ain't the only team that has Remembrance Day/Memorial Cup theme Jerseys theirs others as well, you just have to wait and see until now.

Sunday 4 November 2012

I got 99 plus 1 more problems with Hockey! (Warning: Me ranting out of control!)

Well here we are my rant about hockey for my 100th post here at Hockey Jerseys Arts, so here we go.

NHL Lockout continues on!
Yes indeed this whole mess is still continues witch right now we lost all the games in November, and just yesterday cancels all the games in December and to no surprise this year Winter Classic, just like 2004-05, all because of both the Owners and the Players can't agreed on anything, so yeah the way this is going we all might as well kiss the rest of the 2012-13 season goodbye!

New York Islanders moving to Brooklyn.
Well it's official people after the 2014-15 season the Islanders are moving out of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Now their are some negative feedbacks on this and yes it true it's seats 2000 less than Nassau and the Barclays Center is build for Basketball standards only but think about this people the thing are going in the NHL right now this is indeed pretty much a rebuild in regaining some of the fan base that they lost over the years mainly keeping their identity in tack, they'll get back some of their old fans as well as new fans along the way, and maybe in the next couple of years down the road the Barclays Center would get a upgrade, for now hopefully the Islanders can put the past (including the 90s and 2000s mostly) behind them and look into the future.

2nd team in Toronto! A wake up call for the Leafs?
Yes sir e bob the rumors tells it all that with a new arena in Markham Ontario and there are a good chance that a bid for a NHL team will happen, but this raise a very big Question, will this be the Toronto Maple Leafs big wake up call? Some people will say "Yes", others say "No", but I for one believes the the Leafs should not take this rumors lightly, why? Well let me tell you. The New York Rangers were around a long time until in 1972 the Islanders was born and the are like "meh they'll never get far", but when 1980s came around and "BOOM" the Islanders won the Stanley Cup 4 years in a row! while the Rangers having a hell of a time trying to win the Stanley Cup until 1994 when they finally won it all and end one of the biggest drought ever. You also got the Los Angeles Kings they were around a long time too, then came the Anaheim Ducks (or the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the beginning) the Kings are like "they'll never be big like us we're Hollywood size team they'll be gone in couple of years", come 2007 and "BOOM" the Ducks beat the Ottawa Senators in 5 games to win the Stanley Cup while 5 years later the Kings beats the Devils in 6 games to win the cup. So in the other words Leafs if this Markham City gets a NHL team you better step up and get your head out of your ass because if not, you're going to end up the same problems as the Rangers and L.A. guarantee!

Why Wranglers Why?
Just when you think the teams new main crest was bad enough, their new jerseys are the worse. I just can't explain how bad they are it's one those things that the jerseys are plain while the crest and the shoulder patches have some live to it, I mean just at these old uniforms before the rebrand they're way better then what they're wearing right now! It's sad really sad, they had such good logos until this came up I'm just not pleased at all.

Coyotes Ownership Saga Year 4
Once again this saga is still continuing and let's face it everyone it's not going to end well that's for sure, I mean think about it everyone they got no owner(s), the city is paying big bucks and laying off workers just to keep this team that the market is not working, just to add insult, Gary Bettman still believes that hockey in the desert will work, that's sad when you had a commissioner of the NHL has more fate in a wasted market over a well established hockey market in the north. I hope this ends soon, move them or fold them, if not the city of Glendale AZ, will be broke all because of one mans dream became the city's nightmare!

2 more Expansion = too many headaches
Alright here's a thought, there's a rumors that said that if this whole lockout mess gets fix, that they would add 2 more teams in the NHL in hopes of even the divisions at 8 each within 2 conference. O.K. here's my question, Why would the NHL want to add 2 more teams where their other teams can't even keep themselves together and always get the League and/or the city to bail them out? It's really sad where you some teams in the south are having a hard time getting a packed house to even one team that doesn't even have a owner, and yet all the NHL are talking about is expansion, "REALLY", all I can say is NHL you're not ready for expansion in fact the way things are going you guys aren't ready to be a 30 team league the way things are going, indeed it's true hockey is number 4 out of all other sports in the North America and sooner or later if things get any worse chances are some other sport will take that number 4 over hockey.

The new Winnipeg Jets big seller: No Surprise!
Just read a piece of a article on The Hockey News about the Winnipeg Jets being a best seller witch it's no surprise to me, hell they became a best seller because they're a new team, but the city of Winnipeg no matter how small the city is, it's how big the market is and the hockey market in Winnipeg is strong pretty much the same if not almost the same level as other well established hockey markets out there unlike other so called big markets from city that has big population that would be a easy money maker, so anyway I wish the Jets for the best and keep on selling like hot cakes.

Daryl Katz vs. the City of Edmonton feud.
There's a saying "the Rich gets Richer!" or in this case "the Rich gets over their heads!" Katz trip to Seattle trying to scare the people Edmonton, to even asking the City for money in order to build a new arena, O.K. Daryl I understand, getting the city money to build this new state of the art arena is nice all and the City would go "gun ho" for it if you were a "Millionaire!" really dude you're a "Billionaire" you can make the state of the art arena with a snap of a finger! Yet you want the city to give you a crap load of money in order to build a new arena or else you're moving the team, well I say you might as well move them, I know we just got 7 Canadian teams and all, however dude as much you're a media lover with throwing you big bucks to political partys here and there, to other donations, aside from that the people of Edmonton have been in this kind of threats for years all the time, and mostly you Daryl Katz are a good example of a greedy Billionaire that you don't want to spend "your" money on a arena instead you want "their" money to make it happen. The City of Edmonton thinks you can build the arena with your money without problems so that they don't end up like the Phoenix Coyotes after spending the city money to build a new arena and here we are the problems on how the city of Glendale is still paying the league with city tax money in order to keep this team in the middle of the desert that no one cares about to even buyers want the team to stay but can't come up with the money to do so, to lastly the buyers want to move the team but rejected because our good old commissioner of the NHL don't want to move the team because it's part of his dream of a southern market success. So Daryl Katz you're not getting your way with these people of Edmonton because they are not stupid as you think, in my option if this whole mess in Phoenix would have fixed from getting a new owner or finally move out of the desert to some better hockey market within a year or sooner, I can guarantee you that you will have your way with the city of Edmonton.

Well that's my rant their more stuff on hockey but I'm going to stop right here mainly most of them are nothing but lost for words to me, there will be another concept made by me soon and mainly I had a big concept idea in the works after reading a article from The Hockey News couple of weeks ago, till then.
Just Maybe?
Jest Enjoy!
